rarely found Alesis HR 16 B black cased version of this classic 16 bit drum machine containing more dance-orientated sounds.

The HR16B was released in 1989 following on from the hugely successful HR16 (Grey) model. Alesis upgraded the software and the 47 sound samples contained were aimed more at the dance market. The casing is Black, with an excellent backlit display and a slider to alter all data, and with the slider each voice can be tuned independently in 32 seperate increments over an octave and a half.

There are 16 independent drum sounds, each of which can by assigned to any one of 47 digital samples. They can then be routed with a 7 position pan effect to one of two sets of stereo outputs. This is one of the most tweakable drum machines ever made...

Recording is a breeze - hit Record, then play on the TOUCH SENSITIVE drum buttons on the front panel, which then store the sounds in a sequencer pattern. The unit can hold up to 100 patterns in memory, from 1 to 682 beats long. The patterns can be combined into songs, with up to 100 songs in the memory, each can have a list of patterns up to 255 steps long.

The 16 pads on the front of the HR-16 are VELOCITY SENSITIVE. Only 15 voices have been used, the 16th is used for the click track. 12 of the pads are each assigned directly to a voice. However the 3 hi-hat pads are all assigned to the same voice, giving a more realistic hi-hat pedal effect as the Closed hi-hat will cut off the Open hi-hat.

Rear panel has two sets of stereo outputs, Tape In/Out, Start/Stop jack, MIDI IN/Out. There are operating instructions under the flap by the volume control.
